The proposed project was to design the Tabung Haji Hotel & Convention Centre at Lot 1586, Jalan Lapangan Terbang, Kuching, Sarawak (6.16 acres) on a site directly opposite Kuching International Airport. The building complex incorporates a nine-storey hotel block with 246 rooms, a convention hall for 1090 guests and 2,475 sqm of office and retail spaces. It aims to become a modern contemporary landmark for Lembaga Tabung Haji in Kuching with an ingrained identity unique to the Place, Culture & Climate.
Being a place for habitation and human activities, the notion of shelter and environment becomes the basis for the design. The local ethnic cultural symbolism of Pua Kumbu infuses life into the form through its folds and creases, presenting a tactile quality and a uniquely strong skyline and façade.
