SEMENGGOH, KUCHING, SARAWAK.
Sited on top of a gentle terrain, surrounded by lush foliage, the building is bordered by the uneven narrow road at southwest, and has a picture perfect view of the current SBC facilities looking down into the valley from the site. The linearity of the layout is separated by a corridor with extended wall that strongly define the axis as the main circulation area to promote a sense of welcoming’ to the building. At the entrance, information wall & planters are placed strategically for educational & visitors attraction.
The architecture also promotes a sense of openness with natural light & ventilation, with wide overhangs & louvers for sun shading that strengthen the tropical design & environmental friendly concept & to promote eco friendliness in design. The façade is basically transparent with large aluminium windows with louvers as sun shading devices and partly solid surface with metal cladding wall. The series of overlapping roofing resembles the form of the lush foliage, whereby the free fall roof acts as the leaf canopies. The Chemical Store is separated from the main building for safety reasons as per client’s requirement. By having a covered walkway, a great way to experience walking with the greens, of boardwalks, will be inspiring to visitors & staff alike and become the supporting access to the Flora Building.
